About the set

Paternus' Argument is a set for melee mages, and as such it doesn't boost any spells, it does however boost physical weapon damage from every item except the shield. However, as the increase to Physical damage is usually a % of Strength, this won't provide as much of an increase as if, say, Mental Regeneration were used (as is on Dagowit's set). Each item, except the sword, also increase Physical resistance, which is very useful since the Battle Mage doesn't have the Armour skill.

If you're planning on building a melee Mage, you might want to use bits of this set in addition to Dagowit's set, as Dagowit's set uses Mental Regeneration to boost Magic weapon damage, and monsters generally resist Magic damage less than Physical damage.
