Quick Walkthrough
Talk to the Messenger.
Go to Twainbrook.
Talk to the DeElfici Merchant.
Complain to the local Commander Shauir.
Return to Twainbrook and confront the merchant.
Confront the Merchant's son (he will be standing next to the merchant).
When the Merchant, his son, and the two soldiers attack, kill them.
Go back to the local commander and tell him some lies so you are off the hook.
Take Commander Shauir's report to General Whimsical.
Take the stolen shield General Whimsical gives you to Tybasso.
Talk to the soldier outside the house and show him the promissory note.
Go inside the house and give the note and shield to the wife Hyderia.
She notices the shield is stolen, calls the guard and a fight ensues.
Report to Tybasso that they were dead when you got there.
Find Dylaith. Seems to be called Varnar too.
Kill the soldiers.
Talk to Varnar again.
Decline the offer and kill Varnar/Dylaith and his bandits too.
Only Tybasso's grandson is left as a witness.
Talk to Glydial and take him back to Tybasso.
Talking to Tybasso twice completes this quest.
Detailed Walkthrough
Talk to the Messenger to receive the undelivered letter.
The DeElfici offices are in Twainbrook, so head North out of Sloeford, over the river and follow the road to the right (East) and then North. At the junction you can either continue following the road North then East into Twainbrook, or you can turn East over the river and then North just before the next bridge.
Whichever route you use, when you arrive in Twainbrook head to the DeElfici offices and talk to the Merchant inside the building behind the real merchant you can buy from and sell to. Apparently you owe the DeElfici’s a very large debt for your education.
You return to Twainbrook and confront the merchant, who denies having stolen from you and is offended at being accused of selling stolen goods. He objects vociferously but doesn't do much of anything. So you turn to the son who is standing right next to the merchant.
The merchant's son is less happy about this. He is particularly offended when you start badmouthing his mother. At that point the merchant, the son and the two soldiers attack you. Of course, now that you have been attacked, you have to defend yourself. None of them survive.
