An NPC (NonPlayingCharacter) is a character in Ancaria that you can interact with, not associated with a player in the game; they are controlled by the game itself. Some of them play special roles, such as Quest Givers, Smiths, Merchants and Combo Masters. Others merely converse with you. What the NPC says may provide useful information later in the game. It may also be an indication of your esteem in the "community". The more quests you complete, the more you are appreciated.
In Sacred Underworld
NPC's are shown as blue or white dots on the minimap. White indicates that the NPC will interact with a quest; blue NPC's will just speak with you.
In Sacred 2:Fallen Angel
Only NPC's that you can interact with are indicated on the map or minimap. These will always be quest givers and are indicated by a question mark ? icon or an exclamation ! icon.
