A player does not need the Blacksmith skill to forge or socket items. All that is necessary is a visit to the Smith, where item socketing can be paid for.
How to Socket or Forge
After clicking upon the Blacksmith ingame:
The player will see the Smith/Socketing screen. Bring the item you wish to have socketed over to the field under the word Forging. Only Items that have slots within them can be placed here:
The player can place the item which possesses slots in the field. Following down the window along the right, will be seen the number and type of sockets that the item has. In this case of this sword, we see there are two slots available for socketing, as well as an indication of the quality of the slots. The cursor is indicating that within one of the two slots available, the quality of this slot is Silver, and can therefore socket runes, smith arts and rings.
Blacksmith arts are Combat Arts that only a Blacksmith can socket. They run along the bottom of the Forge Screen, and can take the place of Runes, jewelry, or any other type of socketables, if none are to be had. In this example shown, by clicking on the first Blacksmith Art, Enhance, it will turn to green any available slot that this smith art can be socketed successfully into.
Since the Silver slot allows runes to be socketed into it, the player can now take the Moribund Animus rune from his inventory and place it into the socket. Press Forge...socketing is complete.
Types of Sockets/Slots
There are 4 different kinds of slots/sockets available on weapons and armor that can allow only certain types of items to be put within for socketing.
- Bronze
Bronze sockets allow the player to socket runes and Blackmith Arts
- Silver
Silver sockets allow the player to socket runes, Blacksmith arts and rings and increased bonus to forged items.
- Gold
Gold sockets allow the player to socket runes, Blacksmith arts, rings, amulets, and will significantly increase bonus to forged items.
- Damage Type
The Damage Type socket allows you to socket, for example, Chunks of Lava (fire), Poison Tooth (poison), Magic Pearl(magic) and Ice Crystal (Freeze) into your gear. They will convert a percentage of your weapon damage into the new, chosen element. For example, if a player wanted to enhance fire damage, he would socket one or more "Chunk of Lava" into their chosen gear and that would give them ~30-50% of the previous damage now as fire damage instead of physical. The more elemental damage a player can produce, the better the chance of applying the relevant status effect.
