Weapon Type
In game they are listed under three name:
- Energy Pistol
- Energy Smallarm
- Energy Shot
Energy Pistols gain bonus damage from Dexterity, the same as all player-usable ranged weapons.
Ranged Weapon Lore Modifications
Energy Pistols have three unlockable modifiers based on Ranged Weapon Lore. The level 75 modifier requires Ranged Weapon Mastery.
At Level | 1 | 25 | 75 |
---|---|---|---|
Modifier | Chance to Pierce | Chance to slow opponent 25% | - Enemy Chance to reflect ranged damage |
Chance for Pierce allows the projectile to continue past the original target and strike further opponents who are directly behind it. Thus when many enemies are approaching in a group striking the nearest opponent can often lead to many being struck down.
Certain opponents have a chance to reflect ranged damage back to the attacker, the Mastery Unlock for energy pistols can decrease the chance of this drastically.
Damage Types
Energy Pistols typically deal multiple types of damage. They will always deal some physical damage, however depending on the weapon they will also deal any of the other damage types. The additional damage types are not restricted to a single one at a time, you can have pistols that have multiple elemental damages, allowing for several different status effects being possible without any additional gear.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Energy Projectiles seem to have infinite range. They will continue until they strike something, be it an enemy or terrain. The 'projectile storms' that occasionally appear seem to be caused by the projectiles striking some invisible barrier and bouncing back, crisscrossing the terrain to add damage should they strike an enemy.

Cons
- The projectiles seem to be slower than bows and thrown weapons, this can make it quite difficult to strike opponents that are moving sideways relative to the player.
