Quick Walkthrough

• Talk to Officer Wendelin
• Take a long trip to Trellheim Manor
• Talk to Kratos the Demonologist
• Go to Kufferath Castle
• Talk to Arch Mage Saewald
• Kill the demon summoned by reading the note
• Talk to the guard

Detailed Walkthrough

So Wendelin can't read the demonic message. He suspects it's got some sort of magical protection and figures that Kratos can figure it out and decode it. Go to Trellheim Manor and talk to him. (see notes) He will send you to to Kufferath Castle to visit the Arch Mage there. Take the trip there and talk to him. He will do his best to decode the letter and just about gets it done and as he's saying it's "Baron Dem....", a demon summoned by the spell kills him. You will then need to kill the demon and talk to the guard.

If you haven't already done so, there's another quest waiting at the end of the road leading to Trellheim Manor called The Lost Letter. It's a short one and as long as you're in the area, might as well slay multiple birds with one stone. The Shadow Warrior also has a Class Quest in the basement that can also be done at the same time. There is also an Ascaron Employee located just inside the front door if you've already managed to activate the Epic Office Quest
