In the Elven camp north of Clearview, there's an elf who helps you out with a quest called The Brother's Amulet. He tells you to retrieve the jewels that were removed from the amulet and later, after you've done that, puts the amulet back together to seal the jewel's power. His name is Barti Slartfass. Douglas Adams had a character in two books of his Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series named Slartibartfast.
There's a second Sacred 2 NPC character who also has a name based on Slartibartfast. He resides in Ruka, and is part of the Shadow campaign. He's an Ogre Shaman named Brartislartfass. He's a quest giver for the shadow quest Dr. Muchthink.
There are other references to the works of Adams that can be found in Ancaria's cemeteries. The fourth volume of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide Trilogy was "So Long and Thanks for all the Fish." There's one memorial stone in the Shadowy Catacombs area just outside of the complex the Shadow Warrior starts his game from in Single Player mode that bears the same title as seen here:
When leaving the complex, walk down the stairs and turn right until you see the slab. Clicking on the stone will usually yield some sort of drop - a potion. There are a number of graves of celebrities in the west end of the Griffinborough Cemetery, each with the deceased celebrity's name and an epitath that reads "RIP, and thanks for ______." - where the blank is filled in with what the celebrity was best known for - all of which are a play on "So long and Thanks for All the Fish. The graves belong to:
Temple Guardian CommentaryIf you leave a light side Temple Guardian sit for a while, he will make a comment that sounds an awful lot like something that Marvin - the robot/droid from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy would say: "Sure, go ahead and let me wait, I'll be rusting quietly."
Community Patch AdditionsThe CM Patch developers decided to add their bit to the amount of Hitchhiker's Guide references in Sacred 2. When they grouped all the tutorial quests together in a one logbook section, they entitled it The Hitchhiker's Guide to Ancaria. See Also |
