Skills and Attributes

The following skills will affect this combat art:

  • Combat Discipline - will increase the damage of this combat art and lower its regeneration time if it is placed in a combo.

The following attributes will affect this combat art:

  • Stamina will lower regeneration time

Usage Strategies

  • This combat art is very similar to the Dragon Mage's Eternal Fire. However, unlike that spell, Inferno has additional flat fire damage and fire DOT which are increased by Fire Spells Lore, Ancient Magic, Intelligence, and all other normal sources of damage boosts for spells.
  • The flat fire damage and fire DOT only apply to the initial target of Inferno, they do not spread to other enemies. Only the special "Plague Fire" damage will spread. Likewise gold mod Cremate only applies to the initial target. If the plague fire spreads to other enemies they will not be slowed.
  • Therefore it might be best to cast Inferno on the strongest enemy in a mob and let it spread to the weaker enemies.
  • Multiple castings of this spell stack. While a single casting may seem underwhelming at times, the player can cast it several times on the same mob, and the plague fire can jump back and forth between enemies multiple times, substantially compounding the damage.
  • While Deadly Strike (deathblow) does not normally work on spells, Inferno has this modifier built in as a base property. This means that items with the modifier "Opponent Level for Deadly Strike" will apply to Inferno and raise the damage threshold at which double damage is inflicted.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Player can stack several castings of this spell on groups of enemies.
  • Can spread very far very fast, affecting huge mobs, sometimes even those offscreen.
  • Can activate Deadly Strike.

Cons

  • Takes time to inflict its full damage payload.
  • Some properties don't spread to other enemies.
