Skills and Attributes
The following skills will affect this combat art:
- Combat Discipline - will increase the damage of this combat art and lower its regeneration time if it is placed in a combo.
The following attributes will affect this combat art:
- Stamina will lower regeneration time
Usage Strategies
- The range of Frost Nova does not increase. However, using the item modifier Combat art range +X% can be used to boost the radius of the nova quite high.
- Deep Frost increases enemy sensitivity to ice damage, like reverse Damage Mitigation. It can pierce ice immunities and also affects even enemies without any ice resistance. Hitting enemies with Frost Nova modded with Deep Frost is a good precursor to using other ice spells, which will cause more damage.
- Conservation gold mod can decrease the regeneration time to very low levels but it will not affect the 14s cooldown, which is fixed.
- Frost Nova has a mutual exclusivity with the Assassin's spell Wake of Inferno. If the two spells are cast in an overlapping area, whichever is the higher level will cancel out the other. The Flame Sprite enemy in the Bengaresh Desert also uses Wake of Inferno. The Sorceress can use Frost Nova to cancel out the Flame Sprite's spell, but beware if Frost Nova is too low level -- the Flame Sprite will banish the Frost Nova instead!
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Can be useful against very large mobs that are not moving, for example enemies within melee range
- The effect follows the Sorceress around while it lasts
- Ice resist reduction can be useful when paired up with other ice-using characters
- Damage mitigation from Glaciate mod protects against physical damage spells and weapon attacks
Cons
- Mediocre initial damage
- Requires the Sorceress be fairly close to enemies
- 14 second cooldown is fixed (not modified by skills or attributes) in addition to the regeneration time.
