The rate of attack, or the speed at which a player may use a weapon to hit with or fire at for any character is affected by their Attack Speed rating ("AS"), which can be affected by the type of weapon in use. This modifier, by increasing the speed of a melee swing or that of an arrow shot can thereby increase the number of attacks a player may perform within a given amount of time. Some weapons, such as daggers, are intrinsically faster, while others, such as crossbows, are innately slower. Additionally, certain characters have a natural ability to use some weapons faster than other characters. Players should remain aware of this synergy. Selecting an appropriate lore (e.g. Hafted Weapons for use with Thain's Axe) can increase attack speed. Attack speed is not affected in any way by the type of enemy being fought, unless they use a Combat Art which slows a player down

Availability of Attack Speed +X% via Combat Arts
- Inquisitor's Frenetic Fervor adds a base bonus of 30% and increases the maximum attack speed attainable from 150 to 170%. The Fanatacism mod further increases attack speed by 14.8% + scaling bonus per combat art level. Initial duration = 15 seconds, relentless gold mod increases duration 33.33% + scaling bonus per combat art level.
- Seraphim's Dashing Alacrity includes a base bonus to attack speed and the bloodlust mod adds +10% more and an additional scaling bonus per CA level. Duration can reach 45 seconds and this CA can become chain castable with proper mods.
- Seraphim's BFG Buff provides a bonus to ranged weapons which increases attack speed with ranged weapons (including the BFG) provided that the player has the ranged weapons skill.
- Shadow Warrior's Rousing Command with Impluse silver mod (10% + scaling bonus per Combat Art level)
- Shadow Warrior's Killing Spree with Sway gold mod increases attack speed 25%.
- Dryad's Sinister Predator Buff increases ranged weapon only attack speed by 15%. Rapid fire bronze mod can provide an additional 7.4% + scaling bonus per combat art level.
- High Elf and Temple Guardian do not have combat arts that increase their attack speed.
Innate Weapon Attack Animation Speeds
Melee weapons have different innate attack animation speeds which can change the amount of hits per minute a character can do. These speeds can be further modified by:
- Character class
- Whether the character is riding a mount or not
- Whether a CA is being used or not
For example, a dual wielding Seraphim will execute normal attacks more quickly from a mount but pelting strikes will execute slower on a tiger than if the character was on foot.
Here is an estimate of comparative innate weapon speeds.
Sword Weapons:
- Swords
- Bastard Swords - animation speed same as swords at equivalent attack speed.
- Daggers - animation speed about 25% faster than swords at equivalent attack speed.
- Sabers - animation speed same as swords at equivalent attack speed.
- Short Swords - animation speed about 15% faster than swords at equivalent attack spee.
- Two Handed Swords - animation speed about 5% slower than swords at equivalent attack speed.
Hafted Weapons:
- Axes - animation speed same as swords at equivalent attack speed.
- Two Handed Axes - animation speed about 5% slower than swords at equivalent attack speed.
- Clubs - animation speed about 5% faster than swords at equivalent attack speed.
- Hammers - animation speed about 5% slower than swords at equivalent attack speed.
- Two Handed Hammers - animation speed about 5% slower than swords at equivalent attack speed.
